New Cardiff site for EasyHotel
The Caterer magazine has reported that the budget hotel chain, EasyHotel, will spend £8m on a new Cardiff site. Expected to open in 2019, the new build 120-bedroom hotel will replace an office block which is set for demolition. Located in Fitzalan Place in central Cardiff, the site is still subject to planning. EasyHotel comprises of 20 franchised sites as well as five owned hotels, and is due to open new sites in Liverpool, Leeds, Ipswich, Sheffield and Barcelona.
BrewDog expand with first London brewpub
BrewDog is set to launch its first UK brewpub in London, according to Pub and Bar magazine. BrewPub will be situated in the refurbished neo-gothic Minster Building, on the corner of Mark Lane and Great Tower Street. The 8,500 sq ft site has a 400 person capacity, and will also produce its own seasonal beers. This opening marks BrewDog's 31st site in the UK, 51st worldwide and seventh in London; and the brewer is reportedly targeting additional sites to continue its global expansion.
Let's Sushi and GBK to open at Meadowhall
Joint owner of the Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield, British Land, has announced that Let's Sushi and GBK will be opening in the Oasis Dining Quarter. As reported by Paul Charity at Propel Info, Gourmet Burger Kitchen will open its 2,500 sq ft, 100 cover site in November, whilst local operator Let's Sushi will occupy a 500 sq ft space.
London RevPAR growth for Millennium & Copthorne
As reported by Neil Gerrard at The Caterer, Millennium & Copthorne hotel group announced a 5.2% increase in RevPAR within London for the first nine months in 2017. The company operates 21 hotels in the UK, for which seven are based in London. Furthermore, the company announced a 4% increase in hotel revenue on a constant currency basis across the entire group for the first nine months of the year. However, for the same period, their Europe estate experienced a 0.2% fall.
ETM to open Broadleaf in the City of London
ETM, run by brothers Ed and Tom Martin, will launch their fourteenth venue on Old Broad Street, in the shadow of Tower 42, reports Pub and Bar magazine. The 500 sq m, 200 cover restaurant and bar has been designed by Russell Stage Studio, with inspiration drawn from Victorian glasshouses.
And Finally...
Staindrop Lodge in Sheffield has been acquired by Bright Hospitality Group, marking the group's tenth hotel, reports The Caterer. The deal was brokered by Nick Thomas of Fleurets, having marketed the 37-bedroom property for a seven figure sum. BHG's estate mostly spans the Midlands and the North, however they also acquired the Cheltenham Regency Hotel in Cheltenham earlier in the year, also from Fleurets.
