Average hotel room rate exceeds £100
The average hotel room rate in the UK has exceeded the £100 mark, according to The Caterer. BDO's Hotel Britain 2018 report indicated that UK room rates have increased 3.4% year-on-year in 2017, and are averaging £100.58; whilst room yields also increased to £77.79, a 2.8% rise. BDO attributed these increases to the weak pound encouraging UK tourism. 21,700 rooms are expected to open throughout 2018 and 2019, with 38% of these being in London.
Vegan restaurant chain looks to expand
Vegan restaurant group, By Chloe, has announced plans to double its estate over the next two years, following a $31m (£22m) investment, according to The Caterer. By Chloe's current global estate includes 10 restaurants around the world, including one in London's Covent Garden, with plans to open at One Tower Bridge this year.
First Restaurant Group acquires The Grafton Arms and adds 11 rooms
Having recently acquired The Grafton Arms in Fitzrovia, First Restaurant Group plans to add 11 bedrooms to the pub, which will be designed by LA-based Meredith Winston, according to Pub and Bar Magazine. Joining First Restaurant Group's Pub & Rooms portfolio, the pub marks their third property and first in London's West End. The company aspire to double its estate of pubs with rooms by 2010.
Greene King to build hotel in Wiltshire
Greene King has been granted permission by Wiltshire Council to build a hotel next to the Greyfisher pub in Harnham, Salisbury. Propel reports that the two storey building will host 20-bedrooms.
Preto begins expansions with Chelmsford restaurant
Brazilian rodizio brand, Preto has opened its latest site in Chelmsford, Essex, as part of the company's strategic expansion plans to open an additional four restaurants this year. With 11 sites across the UK, the first being in Victoria, London, the latest restaurant is located at the Meadows Shopping Centre according to Propel.
And Finally...
As reported by Boutique Hotelier, Springwood Guest House, a 13-bedroom Surrey guest house in Horley has been put on the market with Fleurets for 1.25m. The sale price also includes an electric car, used to transport guests to and from nearby Gatwick Airport. The property has been under the ownership of Sue Denman since 2007, who carried out an extensive refurbishment programme, establishing the guest house's Art Deco theme.
