Young's reports 8.8% increase in managed house sales
According to Pub and Bar Magazine, Young's latest statement shows a 8.8% increase in managed house sales for the first thirteen weeks. Furthermore, like-for-like sales reported a 5.2% increase.
EasyHotel acquire Chester site
EasyHotel, the budget hotel operator, has announced the completion of a 109-bedroom hotel in Chester, reports The Caterer. This year EasyHotel also announced the £8.7m acquisition of a site in Milton Keynes, which is due to open as a 124-bedroom hotel next year. EasyHotels' estate now totals 28 sites.
Boxcar set to open second site in Marylebone
The co-founder of Cubitt House, Barry Hirst, is set to open a second site for his Boxcar brand. As reported by Propel Info, the new site will be located in Marylebone and open on the 24th July. Boxcar's first site was located in New Quebec Street and opened last year. Hirst co-founded the central London gastro pub group, Cubitt House, with Stefan Turnbull in 2005, which was later sold, in 2015, to private investors.
Toyoko Inns sets to open Manchester site
Toyoko Inns, a Japenese hotel brand, has announced plans for its debut UK site, according to Propel Info. The company has a strong presence across Asia and launched its first Europeans sites in Frankfurt and Marseille. Toyoko Inns now plans to launch a UK hotel in Manchester's city centre, comprising of 350 rooms across a 22-storey building. With work intended to commence in early 2019, a planning application has been submitted to the city council. The hotel group are targeting more hotel sites throughout the UK.
Restaurants set to open in Coventry's Cathedral Lanes development
As part of phase two of the Coventry's Cathedral Lanes development, Bistrot Pierre and Zizzi will open restaurants in September. According to Propel Info, Bistrot Pierre has taken a 5,323 sq ft unit with a new 20-year lease, whilst Zizzi has acquired a 3,498 space on the ground floor. Furthermore The New World Trading Company will open a new site for their Botanist brand in November, and Turtle Bay will also take a site in early 2019. There are two further units still available.
And Finally...
According to the Deloitte Consumer Tracker, UK consumer confidence rose by two percentage points in Q2 2018, reporting at -4%. This is the highest point since the tracker's inception in Q3 of 2011. As reported by Propel Info, this boost in confidence has been attributed to both positive wage growth as well as the effects of a strong labour market; other factors were the royal wedding, our current heat wave and of course the world cup. More than 3,000 consumers participated in the quarterly survey, between 15th and 18th June.
