Zahawi plans Covid-style tax breaks for firms facing ruin

Nadhim Zahawi has drawn up plans for a multibillion-pound package of tax cuts to help businesses facing bankruptcy because of rising energy costs. The chancellor, who is working on an emergency energy strategy for the new prime minister, said the government could learn the "lesson from Covid" and introduce targeted reductions in VAT and business rates to help the retail and hospitality sectors, advises The Times.

Immersive adult-only fairground to launch at London's Canary Wharf

PPHE reports London corporate business 'ramping up'

PPHE Hotel Group - which develops, owns and operates hotels and resorts - has said its UK business is leading the way in recovery, particularly in London, where meetings and events enquiries are "ramping up". The Caterer reports that PPHE said that all its key markets delivered strong growth, with the UK leading the way due to the earlier lifting of pandemic restrictions. As well as a "significant rebound" in leisure travel demand, corporate demand activity was also increasing, and the group said it was experiencing steadily increasing demand for meetings and events spaces.

£20 pint price warning amid soaring costs

The chief executive of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) has said that the price of a pint would need to increase to around £15-£20 to support pubs to cover soaring costs. He called for the government to step in on energy costs, as well as business rates and beer tax, reports The Caterer.
