A number of former Antic pubs from across London are set to be on the market after the business entered administration, says the Morning Advertiser. Interpath Advisory's Steve Absolom and Will Wright have been appointed joint administrators to Elflock Limited, Babel Silk Limited, Brocade Limited and De Gremio Limited which collectively operate 13 pubs and bars across the south and east of London as part of the Antic hospitality group.
Stonegate Group has announced the opening of Slug & Lettuce in Albert Square Manchester, highlighting a significant investment of £2.6 million across four of its popular venues, reports CLH. Joining Deansgate, Birmingham and Solihull, Slug & Lettuce Albert Square is the most recent site to receive investment and reopened on Friday 12th July following a £646,000 renovation.
The Pubs Code Adjudicator (PCA) has issued the results of this year's Annual Tied Tenants Survey, which highlight tenant sentiment towards and their relationship with the UK's big six tied pub companies: Admiral, Greene King, Marston's, Punch, Star Pubs & Bars and Stonegate. The survey gathered the opinions of 1,203 tied pub tenants, who were interviewed about their views on a range of topics, reports Pub and Bar. The Pubs Code provides these tenants with important protections to ensure transparency in their business relationships with their respective operators, and the PCA seeks to understand their overall satisfaction with the system via the survey.
Insolvencies in accommodation and food service activities rose 20% in the 12 months to May, reports the Restaurant. The latest statistics released by the Government show the highest year-on-year increase of any sector. According to figures, released (19 July), hospitality insolvencies rose to 3,752 in the 12 months to May 2024, up from 3,133 recorded in the 12 months to May 2023. As well as recording the highest year-on-year increase, the data shows that accommodation and food service activities saw the third highest number of business insolvencies in any industry over the period.
The Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) is raising serious concerns about the increasing number of noise complaints against licensed venues across the UK, which pose a significant threat to the vitality and sustainability of the UK's night-time economy (NTE). CLH reports, a recent Freedom of Information request from 20 London Councils revealed a 53% rise in noise complaints in London, from 2,440 in 2018 to 3,732 in the 2022/23 period. Alongside this rise, Noise Abatement Notices have increased from 34 in 2018 to 51 in 2022/23. (Across 19 London Councils). The NTIA stresses that this is a nationwide issue, severely impacting an industry still working through the cost of operating crisis and the legacy of the pandemic. The surge in complaints and subsequent regulatory actions affected the livelihood of thousands of businesses and employees in the night-time economy, including bars, clubs, restaurants, and entertainment venues.
West Country-based operators Tom Noest and Peter Creed will open their fifth venue later this month, in Cheltenham. The Tivoli will open in the spa town's Andover Road on 26 July and marks the pair's first foray into a slightly more urban domain, reports the Restaurant. The gastropub has been restored and renovated with the rural feel and ethos of the pair's previous pubs, which include the Sherborne Arms in Northleach, The Lamb Inn in Shipton-U-Wychwood, The Fox Inn in Broadwell, and the recently revamped The Bell Inn at Langford.
The full-time results for pubs revealed a celebratory score as more than 17 million pints were poured during the Euros final, reports the Morning Advertiser. Data from real-time market intelligence firm Oxford Partnership showed drink sales in pubs soared by 90% during the match on Sunday 14 July compared to the equivalent period in 2023 and 76.3% against the average Sunday.
