New analysis has revealed that the employment tax measures announced in the autumn Budget will increase the cost of employing a full-time pub and bar staff member by at least £2,500, reports Pub & Bar. This new breakdown of costs, detailed by trade body UKHospitality, is based on a typical staff member, aged 21 or older, earning the National Living Wage and working 38 hours per week. With that taken into account, an employers' National Insurance Contribution will rise 53.9%, from £1,863 to £2,869. UKHospitality goes on to say that a single parent working 9am to 3pm, five days a week will cost £2,100 more in employment cost, while a student working 14 hours at the weekend will be £1,140.
Honest Burgers has set out an ambition to 'quadruple the size of the business' by 2030 as it prepares to launch its new smash burger offshoot in the coming weeks, says the Restaurant.The group which operates 39 restaurants across England and Wales under its core brand, has reported what it describes as 'exceptional results' for the first half of 2024, with the like-for-like sales growth of 11%. Profitability is also ahead of forecast, with more than 60% growth in EBITDA performance. Plans for the new QSR brand (Smashed by Honest Burger) have been fuelled by the success of Honest Burgers' lighter and lower priced smashed burger.
De Vere Horsley Estate in Surrey has completed a £1.3m refurbishment reports The Caterer. It has involved refreshing the reception area, restaurant and 51 of its bedrooms in contemporary hotel, Horsley Place, which sits alongside 19th-century mansion house, Horsley Towers, designed by Sir Charles Barry, who also designed the Houses of Parliament and Highclere Castle in Hampshire, where Downton Abbey was filmed. Over the past year, 79 of the estate's 175 bedrooms have been fully renovated, taking the total of academy double rooms to 45, deluxe doubles to 28 and superior rooms to 12. De Vere operates a collection of historic mansion house estates and hotels across London, the southeast and the Cotswolds.
French restaurateurs Ugo and Antoine Lecorche have announced they will open La Mome London, a spin-off of their famous Cannes restaurant, at The Berkeley in January advises Boutique Hotelier. The restaurant replaces what was Marcus Wareing's dining room. La Mome London will be the Lecorche brothers fourth venture, having opened La Mome Plage in 2018 and La Mome Monte Carlo in 2022.
Hartlepool-based brewer and pub operator Camerons Brewery has agreed a refinance and funding package to support its strategic growth strategy reports Pub & Bar. The deal, made with Sandton Capital Partners and Independent Growth Finance, includes the refinancing of Camerons' existing debt and the provision of new working capital. It supports Camerons Brewery's plans to invest in the group made up of its brewery and an estate of 44 pubs and bars, including the flagship Head of Steam and Urban Country Pub brands.
