A new study reveals that large global beer companies are using their financial power to block independent UK brewers from selling in local pubs, says The Guardian. According to the Society of Independent Brewers (Siba), the number of independent breweries dropped to 1,715 last year. Their annual report highlights that 60% of nearby pubs are inaccessible to indie brewers due to restrictive contracts and "beer ties" that force pubs to sell products from big brewers. These conditions often stem from post-Covid loan agreements or rental contracts with large pub chains. Siba members call for fairer competition to ensure diversity and survival in the industry.
